Ecology is seeking applications for individuals with expertise on US forest offset projects to participate in a US Forest Offset Technical Working Group. As part of the Offsets Rulemaking, Ecology is considering revisions and additions to currently adopted offset protocols.
The purpose of the US Forest Offset Technical Working Group is to provide technical advice and to inform Ecology’s decisions related to revisions to the adopted US Forest Offset Protocol. The working group is expected to meet every three weeks for approximately 6 months, starting in late May.
Application materials for the US Forest Working Group are due Sunday, May 5th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Please submit questions to CCAOffsets@ecy.wa.gov.
Environmental Justice Working Group
In addition to the technical working groups, Ecology is developing an Environmental Justice Offset Working Group that is expected to begin meeting in late spring or early summer. This group will help inform Ecology of environmental justice considerations related to potential protocol changes. Members of this group will not need to have knowledge about offsets or the Climate Commitment Act, and we will instead seek members with lived or professional experience with environmental justice and injustice. Ecology will begin soliciting working group members soon. Please email Jordan Wildish if you would like additional information in the meantime.
Other upcoming technical offset working groups
Ecology will soon invite applications for a Blue Carbon Offset Protocol Technical Working Group expected to begin this Fall.
