A Message From the Director
Greetings from Your WDVA Director - David Puente
The Vietnam Memorial on Capitol Campus will be the site of a special event on March 30, 2024, as the community comes together to honor and welcome home Vietnam Veterans. The Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Ceremony will commence at 12:00 p.m., and all are invited to attend.
The ceremony aims to recognize and express gratitude to the brave men and women who served during the Vietnam War both home and abroad. It will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by these veterans. One of the highlights of the event will be the distribution of commemorative pins to Vietnam veterans and their spouses.
Those who have previously received a pin are encouraged to wear it proudly during the ceremony. The pins serve as a symbol of recognition and appreciation for their service. Vietnam Veterans in Washington State will now be officially recognized as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans" in statute, replacing the previous designation of "Vietnam Veterans War Day." This change comes after years of advocacy by veterans and their supporters, who have long sought to acknowledge the challenges faced by these brave individuals upon their return from service.
We want to ensure that our Vietnam veterans feel the gratitude and respect they deserve. This ceremony is a small way for us to express our appreciation and to welcome them home properly.
The Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Ceremony promises to be a memorable and heartfelt event.I encourage everyone in the community to join us in this important event. It is a chance for us to come together as a community and show our support for our Vietnam veterans.
The event is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot. Please refer to the flyer and information below.
