WA Developmental Disabilities: New Name. Same Mission.
On May 1, 2025, as part of Reimagine DSHS, community services for children and adults with developmental disabilities gained a new name: Developmental Disabilities Community Services (DDCS). Although we are now working as a division within the newly formed Home and Community Living Administration, our leadership, mission and values remain the same. We strive to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live and thrive in their chosen communities with the supports they choose.
We Are Still Here
We want to assure everyone who received services under the former Developmental Disabilities Administration:
- You will continue to have the same services and providers, with the same rights to choose where and how you live.
- Your case manager is still your main contact for your services and supports.
-
Our phone numbers and emails will stay the same.
- If you receive services in your community, you will continue to receive case management through HCLA, even if your provider is a state-operated program in the Behavioral Health and Habilitation Administration.
- HCLA will continue to support people who want to move from Residential Habilitation Centers and other facility-based care to the community.
We Are Listening
These changes reflect a focus on making it easier for people to access the supports they need. Organizational shifts are just the beginning. Real change is going to take time and input from people who are most impacted. Please visit Reimagine DSHS to learn more. You can send us questions, comments or feedback at Reimagine@dshs.wa.gov. If you have comments or questions specific to services for people with developmental disabilities, please email us.
