Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month March 11, 2025 |
|
This month serves as a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of people with developmental disabilities. A time to raise awareness about the barriers they face and an opportunity to advocate for policies and programs that support their full participation in society.
As we observe this important month, we encourage everyone to engage in meaningful conversations, support inclusive initiatives, and challenge misconceptions about developmental disabilities. Whether through education, advocacy, or everyday actions, each of us can contribute to creating a more inclusive world.
March also provides a platform to recognize developmental disability leaders, caregivers, families and professionals. Their dedication, compassion and commitment play a vital role in improving the lives of those they care and advocate for.

Celebrate & Educate
- The National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services is working on a campaign "We're Here All Year" to share that people with developmental disabilities are working, going to school, volunteering, and participating in their community – just like all of us. When they are engaged and involved in their local community, it is a win-win for everyone.
Part of the national campaign, NACDD is seeking photo submissions to show everyday life of individuals with lived disability experiences across the country.
Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to submit one (1) photo of themselves in the community – whether it is getting a coffee, going to work, hanging out with family or friends, etc. – and telling us the story behind the photo.
Submissions are being accepted till March 31, 2025 and will be unveiled in an online photo gallery later this spring. Learn more and submit your photo here.
- Get involved with the DD advocacy community! The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council, which is committed to advocating, promoting, and implementing pathways that help people with IDD to live meaningful, integrated, and productive lives, is looking for council members. Learn more about the opportunity here.
