What's Happening?
Home and Community Services staff are working to make the new Orientation and Safety Training books meet new accessibility standards set by DSHS. This means that the new materials will be fully accessible to anyone who uses assistive technology such as a screen reader.
When will the new Orientation and Safety materials be available?

What has changed in these updates?
- Fully accessible documents!
- All content updated, vetted, and reviewed by over 50 contributors reflect changes in policy and practices
- Content and design restructured to improve learner outcomes
- Images and language adjusted to be inclusive and representative of the diversity of caregivers, DSHS clients, and long-term care residents
- Person-centered concepts incorporated throughout
- New person-centered content on handling violence in the workplace and creating welcoming environments
- Sections for learners to take notes
- Real-life stories to reinforce concepts
- “Printer-friendly” design that will print well in color or greyscale to save ink and toner
What has stayed the same?
- Same learning objectives
- Same topics
- Same duration (2 hours Orientation, 3 hours Safety)
- Same requirements for instructors and trainees
