On August 22, 2024, the commission filed a CR-101 to consider scheduling kratom as a Schedule I controlled substance. At its December 2024 business meeting, the commission determined that additional discussion and information is needed and is soliciting further interested party feedback prior to and at its February 6, 2025 business meeting. This agenda item will begin at approximately 1 p.m.
The commission is particularly interested in receiving feedback pertaining to the following:
- The actual or relative potential for abuse;
- The scientific evidence of its pharmacological effect, if known;
- The state of current scientific knowledge regarding the substance;
- The history and current pattern of abuse;
- The scope, duration, and significance of abuse;
- The risk to the public health;
- The potential of the substance to produce psychic or physiological dependence liability; and
- Whether the substance is an immediate precursor of a controlled substance.
If any interested party wishes to provide oral comment at the business meeting, comments will be limited to ten minutes per person, and each person may only speak once. To provide oral comment at the February 6, 2025 business meeting, you must notify PharmacyRules@doh.wa.gov by noon on January 23, 2025.
