Program Corner
Food For Thought
Paraphrasing the Joint Commission, ‘successful health care or clinical settings always place focus on standards as it relates to patient care and safety leading to desired health outcomes.’
As program manager for the podiatric medical board, I couldn’t agree more and will add, even prior to the covid pandemic, and especially post, the shortage of Allied Health professionals continues to be felt across every health sector(s). Maintaining flexibility in the use of existing personnel has become critical to sustainability. From a public health, regulatory and enforcement perspective, protecting the health and welfare of Washingtonians is priority one. For the board, and the department, it all starts and ends with adherence to appropriate, statutory licensing requirements for every health professional regardless of setting. Failure to do so will undoubtedly lead to undesired costs associated with unlicensed practice, a rise in case management due to violations, and could even potentially lead to a loss of licensure.
Professional Boundaries, Inc. or PBI, recently published an in-depth, fascinating article on the financial impacts of disciplines on clinicians, check out the abbreviated PDF to learn more!
In closing, know your state laws, ensure everyone no matter the setting, are duly credentialed, educated/trained, and qualified to perform within their defined scope at their absolute best!
