Our previous announcement sent on December 27, 2023, included details on the next steps for transitioning the Prometric exam to a self-scheduling and self-pay portal.
The following information is for those who are pending an initial application for a home care aide certification with the Department of Health.
Please Note:
- You will not be required to retake the exam if you hold an active certification. If you are currently certified, left the profession, or otherwise do not need to take the certification exam, this is only informational.
-
A note for caregivers taking the training through SEIU 775 Benefits Group. These caregivers will not be required to pay for their application fee to the Department of Health and their examination fee to Prometric. More information will be provided for SEIU 775 Benefits Group applicants by the Department of Health on this process prior to its implementation.
Beginning Thursday, February 29, Prometric candidates will be directed to the new Registration and Scheduling system (IQT) online portal. On this portal, candidates will schedule and pay, if applicable, for their examination fees.
There will be a two-week blackout period beginning Wednesday, February 14, 2024 through Wednesday February 28, 2024.
Candidates will not be able to be scheduled for the exam during this time. Please do not submit exam payments to DOH after Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
For more information, visit the WADOH - Washington State Department Of Health Home Care Aide Exam | Prometric landing page. Posted voucher portal webinars and guides will be located under Training Program Resources when available.
Please be sure to visit the Prometric landing page often as there will be multiple updates over the next few weeks.

Here is the Candidate Application and Scheduling Guide that will help caregivers and employers or trainers better understand the new process for candidates to self-schedule and self-pay for their exams.
The Voucher Guide will also provide employers, training programs, and other third parties that pay for caregiver exams, a better understanding of the process for purchasing bulk voucher payments for caregivers.
As a Reminder:
Per RCW 18.88B.041: Exemptions from training requirements. (wa.gov), long-term care workers are not required to become certified as a home care aide if they are individual providers caring only for the individual’s biological, step, or adoptive child or parent; and individual providers caring only for the individual’s sibling, aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, grandparent, or grandchild, including when related by marriage or domestic partnership.
Please Note: If you are currently caring for one of these family members and hold a home care aide certification, you are not required to renew your credential.
