On October 31, 2022, the Governor’s remaining COVID-19 proclamations, including the declared state of emergency, will be lifted. The Board of Optometry enacted a policy allowing unlimited online continuing education (CE) during the declared state of emergency. Once the declared emergency ends, this policy will also be rescinded. All qualifying online CE taken prior to October 31st will count toward an optometrist’s requirement of 50 hours every 2 years. Going forward, existing CE rules for online limits apply.
The board is currently discussing proposals to update online CE allowances in the permanent rules. When draft rule language is ready, it will be distributed through this e-mail list for comment. You may also send comments on this topic at any time to Loralei Walker, Program Manager, at loralei.walker@doh.wa.gov.
