Commerce is now accepting grant proposals to support firearm relinquishment laws

Commerce is now accepting applications for projects that support Washington’s firearm relinquishment laws. These laws include Extreme Risk Protection Orders and Orders to Surrender and Prohibit Weapons.

This funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice through the State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP). Congress created SCIP in 2022 under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. In Washington, we use SCIP funds to help improve how our state carries out protection order laws. These laws help keep firearms away from people who may harm themselves or others.

There is a total of $2,200,000 in funding. Commerce expects to award several grants. Each grant will not exceed $500,000.

Applications are due Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
