Draft rule update for electric storage water heaters now open for public comment
Commerce filed a CR 102 and is accepting comments until Jan. 7, 2026
On December 3, Commerce filed a CR 102 and draft rules to update WAC 194-24-180, which covers standards for electric storage water heaters.
The current rule requires electric storage water heaters to have a modular demand-response communications port that meets specific versions of the ANSI/CTA-2045-A standards. Under RCW 19.260.080(1)(b), Commerce may update these requirements to also include newer ANSI/CTA-2045-B specifications so the state standard stays aligned with the latest version of the standard and current industry practice.
Commerce is now accepting public comments. Written comments are due by January 7, 2026. Commerce will also hold a virtual public hearing January 7 at 3 p.m. for anyone who would like to provide verbal comments.
