New face: Welcome Growth Management's Carol Holman!
What attracted you to Commerce? Having worked as a local planner for a small jurisdiction, I always found Commerce's resources very educational and helpful. Eventually, the thought crossed my mind that it would be rewarding to continue serving the people of Washington as a member of the Commerce team — and here I am.
Which unit and division do you work in? I work in the Growth Management Services unit of the Local Government Division.

You can find all virtual backgrounds on new IntraCOM webpage
By JAMIE SMITH Internal communications and community support
Over the past few years, talented Visual Communications Manager Scott Varga has created a number of virtual Commerce backgrounds for us to use in Teams and Zoom throughout the year. Some of our identity caucuses have too. Now you can access the entire library in one place in IntraCOM, where you can download backgrounds for different occasions, seasons and celebrations. Feel free to bookmark the webpage and check back as we add more.
The background page is available on the IntraCOM homepage under ‘Top Topics’ and in the Virtual Breakroom under “Resources.”
Housing Division team shared case study of centering lived experience
Recently, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposed changes to what demographic data to collect in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). HUD requested communities provide feedback on those proposed changes.
With only two months to meet the deadline and little direction from HUD, our Housing Division's project team got to work, focusing on centering those with lived experience in the outreach effort. In Real Talk, members of the project team described the process they went through to center lived experts, what they learned along the way and how we might make use of their experience in our own work.
Watch the recording.
View the slide deck.
Read the HUD feedback summary report.
Read the HMIS existing data standards. (We anticipate HUD releasing updated standards based on feedback in early May.)
