HQ&H: Commerce is opening a hub in the
Tri-Cities — our first one!

T1

We are leasing space within the Tri-Cities Business Center from the
Tri-City Development Council (TRIDEC). Locals refer to the site as the TRIDEC Building.

Public grand opening will be Oct. 17

By LISA BROWN
Director

Colleagues, I am pleased to share with you that we are officially opening our first hub in our Headquarters-and-Hubs (HQ&H) hybrid model of operations! Located in the Tri-City Development Council (TRIDEC) Building, the Commerce Kennewick Tri-City Hub will feature four reservable workspaces, two touchdowns, full kitchen, two conference spaces, restrooms, free parking, good transit access and more.

TRIDEC will host a public grand opening and reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Team members who live in the general area or are visiting are welcome to attend. We also anticipate legislators and stakeholders joining our Executive Leadership Team at the event.

I want to offer a special thanks to Office Services Managing Director Nabila Gomes and the whole Office Services Team for their tremendous work siting, outfitting and preparing this great new space to put down roots in the Tri-Cities community.

I also want to thank Executive Assistant Sarah Coggins, Special Assistant Alex Scott, the Communications Team, Information Services Team, and Community Engagement and Outreach Team for supporting this work. It’s exciting to watch Commerce grow and become more nimble in where and how we work.

Tri-City Hub additional details

Where: The Commerce Kennewick Tri-City Hub is located in the TRIDEC Building (7130 W Grandridge Blvd #A, Kennewick, WA 99336). Other entities have folks working in the same building, including the Kennewick Center for Commerce and the Department of Agriculture.

Reservation system: We anticipate the workspace reservation system being available for scheduling beginning Nov. 1.

Hub technology: The hub will have high-speed internet access and workspaces will be set up just like at headquarters — with two monitors, keyboard and docking station.

You will still have to connect using the BIG-IP Edge VPN. That means team members will need to connect to VPN through their devices as though they were mobile working. If team members need to sync their laptops, they’ll need to do so from our Spokane, Seattle or Olympia sites.

Who has access to the building: We have a handful of team members living in the region who will be assigned to the Tri-City Hub and have access keys to the building. Those folks have already been contacted. We won’t have anyone assigned full-time to a duty station here.

If you aren’t assigned to the hub and want to touchdown there, please contact COMOPSOfficeServices@commerce.wa.gov to arrange to access the building between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. and noon Friday.

Shared conference rooms: The site features two shared conference rooms for team members to use for internal and external stakeholder meetings. However, these are basic shared spaces with limited technology. Commerce doesn’t manage or offer IT support for these spaces. One shared conference room can hold about 40 people and the other eight.

These spaces are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis with the building’s front desk (not a Commerce team member). It is important to note the front desk isn’t always attended, so advanced planning is necessary.

Access to food: A handful of cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. And we have a full kitchen, including a refrigerator and microwave for team member use.

Hub versus field offices: What are the differences among Commerce worksites? In our HQ&H hybrid model of operations, Commerce is home to headquarters, field offices and now our first hub — with more to come.

Headquarters and our field offices have most amenities. Our hubs offer limited space and amenities, since they’re designed for popping in, not full-time onsite work. You can review this document to see the differences.
