Commerce awards $3.5 million to maintain rural affordable housing
State Housing Trust Fund helps preserve 58 units at risk of being lost from needed affordable housing stock in White Salmon and Sunnyside
The Washington State Department of Commerce has awarded approximately $3.5 million in grants from the state Housing Trust Fund to preserve two affordable housing projects:
- $2.5 million to Columbia Cascade Housing for Rhine Village in White Salmon - 35 units in Klickitat County
- $1 million to Sunnyside Housing Authority for Sunnyview Apartments - 23 units in Yakima County
See full details here.
The restrictions on use of the estimated 58 multifamily rental units were nearing expiration, and this funding will preserve them as affordable housing for another 40 years.
Three projects applied for funding requesting a total of over $6.5 million in a June 2021 funding solicitation. See the list of applications here.
Funding opportunity to reopen later this year
The 2021 Continuing Affordability Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) specifies eligibility, funding requirements and priorities, the process for applying and dates of significance.
Commerce intends to reopen applications later in 2021.
