Grid modernization grant update
Application deadline extended to 5 p.m. June 15
Commerce has extended the deadline for the current Grid Modernization program funding opportunity. Applications are now due by 5 p.m. PT on June 15, 2021.
Up to $4.6 million is available to support electric utilities in deploying grid modernization projects that facilitate integration of renewable energy sources, deployment of distributed energy resources and sustainable microgrids.
To support a wider range of the state's utilities, this opportunity provides funding and technical assistance for earlier-stage pre-design and design activities for future capital projects. The application for funding under Application Track 1 (Pre-design) has been simplified from previous rounds to minimize time required to apply.
Only retail electric utilities are eligible to apply for these grants. Commerce is prioritizing applicants that demonstrate partnership with federally-recognized Tribal governments and/or non-profit organizations serving Tribal communities or vulnerable populations.
Find more information, including all application materials and examples of past projects, on Commerce’s Grid Modernization webpage.
The Grid Modernization program is funded through Washington state’s Clean Energy Fund (CEF). The CEF funds projects that provide a public benefit to Washington communities through the deployment of clean energy technologies that save energy and reduce energy costs, reduce harmful emissions, or otherwise increase energy independence for the state.
