Commerce seeks input on guidelines for next round of Grid Modernization grants

Commerce is currently requesting input on draft program guidelines for the Grid Modernization grant program. The new funding opportunity will take place in the first half of this year.

Stakeholder feedback is received through the agency’s Energy and Climate Policy Advisory Committee (ECPAC) process, aligning with guidance in Washington’s Clean Energy Transformation Act and State Energy Strategy. This round of funding is being designed to support earlier-stage, pre-design and design activities for future capital projects.

The solicitation is expected to include both Clean Energy Fund and Clean Energy Transition funds, with approximately $4.6 million available. In accordance with new proviso language for Clean Energy Transition funding, Commerce expects to prioritize projects that benefit Tribal communities and vulnerable populations, including partnership with federally-recognized Tribal governments or non-profit organizations serving vulnerable populations.

Please visit the Grid Modernization webpage to download the draft program guidelines and find call-in information for public input meetings. Written comments will be accepted through Feb. 4.
