Reminders on billing for interpreter services and surgical best practice incentive

Interpreter Services

Bills for interpreter services have the same requirements as standard provider bills. Please ensure your billing systems are able to identify bills from the interpreter, bills submitted with the L&I claim number, and procedure (or CPT) codes associated with interpreter services.

For more information, check out the state rules under WAC 296-20-125 for proper billing requirements and WAC 296-15-330 for your authorization and bill related requirements.

Surgical Quality Care Program

Please ensure your billing systems are set up to identify and pay for surgical best practice incentive code 1086M.

L&I has received bill disputes related to the lack of payment for procedure (CPT) code 1086M, a surgical best practice incentive. The Surgical Quality Care (SQC) Program is a quality improvement initiative that incentivizes surgeons who consistently implement occupational health best practices. This incentive has been integrated into L&I’s Fee Schedule and Payment Policy (MARFS) since January 1, 2024. The SQC Program has allowed participating musculoskeletal surgeons to bill for procedure code 1086M.

For more information see the Surgical Quality Care Program web page.
