Third-Party Independent Medical Exam (IME) Recording Service Option Extended
L&I has extended a third-party recording service option through February 28, 2027.
Since March of last year, workers have had the option of recording their IME session through our vendor, Medical Memory, as an alternative to recording the session themselves.
L&I was testing this service in a pilot that ran from March through February of 2026. Prior to the pilot, over 50% of State Fund IMEs with a request to record were canceled. Between March and November 2025, the cancelation rate on State Fund exams with request to record was 14.1%.
We’ve determined that the demand to have a third-party option is great enough to extend the option through next February. Workers interested in having their IME recorded are encouraged (but not required) to use the third-party recording option. Workers can still record using their own device, if preferred.
Medical Memory’s recording system is completely secure and meets the high standards of both federal and state privacy laws. Recordings aren’t saved on the device used for recording; they only are saved on Medical Memory’s secure server. For more specifics on system security and the storage of recordings, go to the Medical Memory website at https://www.themedicalmemory.com/ime.
During the IME exam, workers can record the session through Medical Memory with their “App” or have the IME provider use their device.
Those workers wishing to use their cell phone should email Medical Memory at: julie@themedicalmemory.com to obtain an authentication code prior to recording.
Workers can request to view their examination recording by emailing L&I at IMEThirdPartyRecording@lni.wa.gov. The email request must identify the date of the IME, your phone number, and your email address. L&I will then email a secure link to create an account with Medical Memory and view the recording. Medical Memory will store the recording on their server for five years.
Thank you for helping us with this pilot program.
