Make mental health awareness part of your safety & health culture at work
Mental illnesses are among the most common health conditions in the United States with more than 1 in 5 U.S. adults living with a mental health condition, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
That’s why L&I’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is focusing on this issue in April starting with a new topic page: Mental Health Awareness in the workplace.
The web page lists actionable resources and tools provided by reputable sources. It contains a wealth of links to comprehensive websites, articles, checklists, videos, and toolkits targeted to employers, managers, supervisors, and employees.
The CDC describes the workplace as an optimal setting to create a culture of health: Workplaces already have communication structures in place, have centralized programs and policies, can make social support networks available, and employers can offer incentives to encourage healthy behaviors.
Help spread the word to your colleagues, customers, and loved ones that mental health matters and that employers can make a difference by helping create a culture of mental wellness and support.
