Self-Insurance Training Summary for
May 2023

Self-insurance trainers offer a no-cost training on a different topic every month throughout the year. In May, trainers conducted two training sessions on Interlocutory and Denial Requests. We are excited about the continued great turnout for the trainings.

The May training covered interlocutory forms, time-frames, and extensions, as well as the denial process, including denial request forms and various denial situations and practice questions.

The training also included a review of rules and regulations that need to be followed to prevent possible penalties arising from:

     WAC 296-15-420:

  • Failure to send the completed department-developed form requesting an allowance, denial or interlocutory order, along with the SIF-5A, within five working days of the due date of first time-loss payment, or when the worker is kept on salary.
  • Failure to pay provisional time-loss on a claim in interlocutory status within 60 days.
  • Failure to provide the completed department-developed form requesting interlocutory order within 60 days of notice of claim, along with the entire copy of the claim file and reasonable explanation why an interlocutory order is needed.
  • Failure to send a completed department-developed form requesting denial to the department within 60 days of notice of claim. Failure to notify the worker when denial is sent to the department.

For more information, see the Claim Adjudication Guidelines.

Watch for the upcoming messages about future trainings to help reach our shared goal of helping workers heal and return to work.
