Self-Insurance training summary
January 2023

Self-Insurance training is offering training on a different topic every month throughout this year. We are excited about the success so far. Almost 300 people attended our Claim Validity training on January 24, 2023. We appreciate how many people took the time to attend.

As a reminder, the January training covered prima facie, or first impression, requirements necessary for an allowable injury or occupational disease claim, information on special situations (i.e. parking lot claims, coming and going, etc.), timely filing and much more.

The training also included rules and regulations that need to followed to prevent possible penalties such as:

• WAC 296-15-266 – Penalties
• RCW 51.48.017 - Self-insurer delaying or refusing to pay benefits
• WAC 296-15-350 – Handling of claims
• WAC 296-15-405 – Filing a self-insured claim
• RCW 51.14.130 – Request for claim resolution - Time
• RCW 51.14.140 – Violations of disclosure or request for resolutions – Order by director
• RCW 51.32.190 – Notice of denial of claim, reasons – procedure – powers and duties of director
• WAC 296-15-520 – Self-Insured third-party administrator (TPA) licensing requirements
