TUMWATER – Workplace safety and health are among the surest investments you can make in today’s economy. A strong workplace safety culture protects workers and can lead to increased productivity and reduced workers’ compensation costs.

Several safety leaders will speak at a one-day seminar in Tumwater on March 19, hosted by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). It’s an opportunity for employers to learn from companies that have been recognized for safety excellence.

Several organizations will be on hand to share their expertise and experience, including the Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Sherwin Williams, Compass Consulting, Fluor Idaho and the L&I Division of Occupational Safety & Health.

The event’s keynote speaker is certified safety professional Michael Wood, administrator for Oregon OSHA and a former L&I manager. His presentation will address the challenges of making workplace health and safety a reality through effective leadership, consistent messaging, and safety fundamentals. Wood wants everyone to know that when it comes to keeping workers safe and healthy we all can, and must, make a difference.

The free seminar is designed for managers, safety professionals, safety committee members, and anyone interested in improving workplace safety. It’s sponsored by L&I's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

VPP is a recognition program designed to promote workplace safety and health through cooperative relationships between management, labor and government.

The daylong event is in the L&I auditorium at 7273 Linderson Way SW in Tumwater. Pre-registration is required (www.surveymonkey.com/r/59XTRM6).
