Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Oct. 11, 2024
Thank you for purchasing a cougar license for the 2024-2025 season. Please remember that changes have been made to Washington’s cougar hunting regulations for the 2024-2025 season. These changes are outlined in the 2024 Big Game Hunting Regulations and on WDFW’s website.
This season, there is a single cougar hunting season that runs from September 1 – March 31, or until a Population Management Unit (PMU) is closed due to reaching an established harvest cap.
|
|
It is each cougar hunter's responsibility to know if the cougar hunting season is open or closed in areas with a harvest cap. Hunters must confirm the PMU is open prior to hunting in that area.
Cougar hunters can check if the season is open or closed by visiting WDFW’s website or calling the toll-free Cougar Hotline (1-866-364-4868, press 2 after greeting).
PMU closures can occur at any time. Both the hotline and website are updated DAILY, so hunters can get updates on PMU openings and closures at any time. The information you find in the morning is in effect through end of day.
If you harvest a cougar, you are required to report your harvest to WDFW within 72 hours by calling the toll-free Cougar Hotline (1-866-364-4868, press 3 after greeting). Harvested cougars must be sealed at any WDFW office within five days of harvest. Cougar must be unfrozen with proof of sex attached.
All hunters purchasing a cougar tag must report their hunt activity (successful or unsuccessful) via the WILD licensing system by March 31, 2025. For more information on hunter reporting, please visit our “Reporting your harvest” webpage.
