Loaner vehicles
We heard you
We recently asked Agency Transportation Officers how we can better support state drivers, particularly on the east side of the mountains. One thing we heard was availability of loaner vehicles when permanently assigned vehicles are being repaired could be better. Thanks to that feedback, we have increased the number of loaners from 12 to 19 statewide.
When to use a loaner
- In Thurston County, you can request a loaner vehicle from DES at the time you schedule your vehicle for maintenance or repairs.
- You can check out a loaner for the entire time a permanent vehicle is in our shop for repair. Your agency is billed for mileage when picked up from our Fones Rd. location in Olympia.
- There is no charge for loaner vehicles picked up from locations outside Thurston County; however, availability is limited, and these vehicles are only offered for shorter durations. If a longer-term loaner is required due to the service timeline, please first explore options within your agency. You may also email mpmail@des.wa.gov for additional options.
- Outside of Thurston County: Loaners are available on a first come, first served basis, and must be returned when your permanent vehicle is back in service.
