Legislative Campus Modernization Project Weekly Update

Irv Newhouse Building
All construction work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
Work continues on the Newhouse Building replacement, nearby sidewalks, the East parking lot, and underground utilities. Next week crews will:
- Install water and fire protection lines.
- Install metal decking for the basement.
- Continue early work on the building’s first floor.
- Complete electrical work underneath Water Street.
Impacts
Traffic/road closures
- A portion of Water Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Street Southwest will be closed to through traffic from Monday, Oct. 23 through approximately Nov. 7. Alternate routes will be clearly marked.
- Increased truck and heavy equipment traffic.
- The portion of Columbia Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Street Southwest remains closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Pedestrian
The sidewalk on East side of Water Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Street Southwest will be closed from Oct. 23 through approximately Nov. 7. The West sidewalk will remain open.
Three sidewalks bordering the Newhouse construction site remain closed. Closed sidewalks include:
- South side of Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest.
- Sidewalks on both sides of Columbia Street.
Noise
Increased noise levels and dust are expected between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. No work is planned outside of these hours.
Crews will be working on Saturday, Oct. 21. Work will take place during hours approved by the City of Olympia.
Parking
- Twelve assigned parking stalls on Water Street will be closed from Oct. 22 through approximately Nov. 7. Assigned parkers have been notified.
- There is no parking along Columbia Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Avenue Southwest through early December.

Joel M. Pritchard Building
DES is finalizing design and price estimating for the Pritchard Rehabilitation and Expansion Project. The next phase of the project is the Construction Document (CD) phase. CD is the final phase of design where the architect produces a set of drawings for the project. They serve as a project manual during the construction phase.

Over the past couple of weeks, crews have begun working on the first floor of the Newhouse Building replacement and progress is much more visual for those visiting the campus.
