Irv Newhouse Building
All construction work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
Work continues on the Newhouse Building replacement, nearby sidewalks, the East parking lot, and underground utilities. Next week, crews will continue:
- Backfilling a large hole on the Southeast portion of the jobsite, increasing the number of large trucks accessing the site via Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest. This will continue through the rest of the month.
- Electrical work on the northeast side of Water Street.
- Adding steel beams to the beginning of the first floor of the building.
- Basement work, including supports, drainage, insulation, and waterproofing.
Traffic/road closures
- The portion of Columbia Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Street Southwest remains closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. It is scheduled to reopen on Dec. 1.
- An increase in large truck traffic is expected through the month of September.
Pedestrian
Three sidewalks bordering the Newhouse construction site remain closed. Closed sidewalks include:
- South side of Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest.
- Sidewalks on both sides of Columbia Street.
Noise
Increased noise levels and dust are expected between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. No work is planned outside of these hours. We will send an update if changing conditions require work on the weekend.
Parking
- Two assigned parking spots on the east side of Water Street remain closed for electrical work.
- There is no parking along Columbia Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Avenue Southwest through early December.
