Irv Newhouse Building
The demolition phase of the Newhouse Building Replacement Project is coming to an end with crews expected to complete demolition of the existing building by Friday, May 19.
Parking on the east side of Water Street Southwest will reopen for assigned parking on Friday, May 19.
Excavation of the South portion of the Visitors Information Center Parking Lot will begin during the week of May 22. This will include the demolition of asphalt and curbs causing an increase in noise levels and dust.
In preparation for the beginning of foundation work, large equipment will be delivered to the job site beginning Friday, May 26.
Traffic/road closures
No road closures expected, flaggers will direct traffic during large equipment deliveries.
Pedestrian
The Pedestrian Bridge over Capitol Way is closed and will remain closed through the completion of the Newhouse Building replacement. Alternate routes are clearly marked.
Three sidewalks bordering the Newhouse construction site remain closed. Closed sidewalks include:
- East side of Water Street Southwest
- West side of Columbia Street Southwest
- South side of Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest
Noise
Increased noise levels and dust are expected between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Parking
The entire Visitors Information Center Parking Lot is closed. People with assigned spaces have been reassigned. Visitors can use the visitor parking map to find other campus parking options. Parking is easiest to find in the following lots:
- Natural Resources Building visitor lot on the corner of Washington Street
- Dash lot on the corner of Maple Park and Jefferson
- Plaza Garage visitor parking – use the Maple Park entrance
