Hello Child Placing Agency (CPA) and Tribal CPA partners,
Measles cases are increasing in Washington state, and the Department of Health is urging people to watch for symptoms, stay home, and contact their health care provider if they feel sick. This message is being sent to provide awareness of the status of cases and guidance to prevent further cases.
If a child, youth, or family has been exposed to measles or is showing symptoms, make sure you follow public health guidance for preventing the spread of infectious diseases and remember your reporting responsibilities.
Helpful Guidance
- Confirm the child or youth’s immunization status.
- Confirm the child or youth’s caseworker has been notified of the report.
- If the child or youth is not immunized, consult the child’s medical team immediately regarding:
- An MMR vaccine (can be given up to three days after exposure), or
- An immune globulin injection (can be given up to six days after exposure).
- Follow all required quarantine and exclusion recommendations until cleared by public health guidance.
Note: Each county may have different guidance based on tracking of known cases. See the Measles activity webpage for more detailed information about your county.
