Rule Making Update
Recently Completed Rules: Child Welfare Division-Child Protective Services (CPS) response to reports of alleged abuse or neglect.
Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) filed WSR 26-09-079 on April 14, 2026, to finalize rule amendments to Child Welfare Division CPS WAC 110-30-0070: How does CPS respond to reports of alleged child abuse or neglect.
The Child Welfare Division revised the existing rule to increase clarity and align with current practice for how employees respond to reports of abuse or neglect. The changes include:
- Updating the title to “CPS response to reports of alleged abuse or neglect of children and youth.”
- Clarifying:
- Timelines for making initial contact with children and youth and completing an investigation.
- The department’s legal authority to photograph and audio record alleged victims of abuse or neglect.
The amended rule will become permanent on June 5, 2026.
