Olympia, WA — The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) has welcomed Barbara Serrano as its newest Chief Public Affairs Officer.
"I’m thrilled to welcome Barbara—along with her expertise and leadership—to our agency," said Secretary Tana Senn. "Her insights and experience will undoubtedly broaden our reach and deepen our impact as we continue to improve long-term outcomes for the children, youth, and families we serve."
Prior to joining DCYF, Barbara served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), where she oversaw risk management and other administrative services.
She also previously served as Senior Policy Advisor on Public Safety for Gov. Jay Inslee. In that role, Barbara worked closely with DCYF leaders to address overcrowding and safety issues at Green Hill School and served as the governor’s representative for the Partnership Council on Juvenile Justice and the DCYF Oversight Board.
