WA Offering Coaching to Prospective Child Care Providers

Olympia, WA – As part of statewide efforts to make it easier for licensed child care providers to open their doors, the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is now offering coaching services to help individuals during the application process.

This week, DCYF launched the Pre-Licensing Services Team, which includes licensors statewide, to help individuals wanting to become licensed child care providers.

“By providing support before an application is ever submitted, we can help prospective providers be better prepared and successful in opening their doors to families,” said Assistant Secretary of Licensing Ruben Reeves.

The Pre-Licensing Team will help applicants:

  • Understand the Washington Administrative Code
  • Navigate the challenges of opening a program
  • Build knowledge of operating child care programs in different regions of the state
  • Understand the tools and resources specific to the different types of licenses

Once the Pre-Licensing Services team receive an inquiry from individuals seeking to become licensed, the team will coach them through the licensing application process, and schedule in-person onboarding sessions.

“We are always looking for individuals who can provide quality child care to Washington families,” said Reeves. “This is just another way for us to let them know, we are here to help.”
