Celebrating CAP month!

At Strengthening Families Washington, we support communities that work with families to build Protective Factors and support parents. Parenting is hard and there is no one way to parent.

Families, and children, can find love and support in many ways – through places in communities that offer a sense of belonging, to teachers who inspire and lift children, or through a social worker, stepping in and offering supports and guidance to families struggling. April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, is a time to celebrate and lift-up the places and people in your community that celebrate the importance of children and their families. You, too, through your partnerships with families and community partners, can build protective factors by recognizing the strengths and resiliency support in families and community.

There are many ways to celebrate this year. Print and color this year's special CAP month coloring page, or order copies of our coloring books (just restocked!) for free through DES MyPrint. You can request poster kits or stickers or temporary tattoos by emailing strengtheningfamilies@dcyf.wa.gov. Our CAP Month Toolkit includes information from Prevent Child Abuse America on the history of the pinwheel, along with the governor's proclamation on CAP month. You can also use our CAP month Zoom/Teams background for any of your virtual meetings this month.

One of the simplest ways to support CAP month is to wear blue tomorrow, April 5.

You can also purchase pinwheels for your own pinwheel garden or plant a virtual pinwheel and support Prevent Child Abuse Washington and the Children's Trust Fund of Washington, supporting families and communities throughout the state.

We work closely with our partners because we cannot do this alone. No one can do this alone.
From our family to yours, thanks for your support.
