Promoting First Relationships (PFR) Drop-In Sessions
Join PFR trainer Carol Good, a provider panel, and ESIT Service Providers from across Washington State to discuss embedding the PFR consultation strategies into your everyday coaching practices.
Promoting First Relationships (PFR) Level 1
This training is a 14-hour workshop focused on foundational knowledge in attachment theory and promoting secure caregiver-child relationships, development of self for infants through preschoolers, understanding and intervening with challenging behaviors, building caregiver reflective capacity, and use of PFR consultation strategies.
Promoting First Relationships (PFR) Booster Sessions
PFR booster sessions are offered for providers who have participated in PFR level 1 or 2 training. The goal of these sessions is to support the ESIT Service Provider’s confidence in using the PFR consultation strategies and understand how PFR can enhance ESIT services. An ESIT multi-disciplinary peer panel will share their stories and experiences of using PFR in their practice.
Introduction to Reflective Supervision for Supervisors
This is a 12-hour workshop plus monthly online reflective consultation group for early childhood supervisors who are or will be providing reflective supervision/consultation (RSC).
Foundations of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health
This 5-module, 15-hour training introduces foundational themes in the field and practice of infant and early childhood mental health.
Foundations of Effective Teaming
This course focuses on teamwork and collaboration as key foundational concepts within the ESIT program and participants will develop understanding of shared commitment to a mutual purpose with a mutually beneficial outcome as a foundation of effective teaming.
Safety Planning with Families
It can be hard to figure out what will increase the safety of a parent and child who are in a relationship with an abusive partner, especially when ending the relationship is not an option. This five-hour training will give ESIT service providers concrete strategies for supporting domestic violence survivors and families. Attendees will take part in an interactive digitized activity, In Her Shoes: Living with Domestic Violence, and walk alongside a survivor’s story.
(Strongly Recommended Prerequisite: Domestic Violence Assessment and Response Part 1 & Part 2)
Questions? Contact dcyf.ESITtraining@dcyf.wa.gov.
Here you will find training, communities of practice and other learning opportunities relevant to your role as an ESIT Professional. These are offered by organizations outside of DCYF ESIT and there may or may not be a cost. |

Touched by the Trauma of Others
This is a two-part series addressing the challenges that service coordinators face when working with families and children experiencing traumatic situations. Service coordinators are the first. The first in the Early Intervention system to contact and interact with families in need of services. Many of those families have struggles and experiences beyond the developmental delays, which bring them to our attention. Some of these experiences are known to us, some are unknown. How do we prepare ourselves? How can we be in our best mindset to provide understanding, compassionate services while also safeguarding ourselves from secondary trauma experiences? In this session, we will address how to care for ourselves, prepare before that first interaction, and why it is imperative we treat ourselves with as much care as we give to those we serve.
Hosted by: National DEC Service Coordination Community of Practice
Attendance in Part I is not required for participation in Part II. You do NOT have to be a DEC member to participate in any CoP activities.
Part I: Preparing for the first contact and attending to our needs
March 27th, 2024 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Part II: Building trust and communicating with compassion
October 18th, 2024 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Learn more and join the Division of Early Childhood Service Coordination Community of Practice
The Service Coordination Community of Practice (SC CoP) was created to recognize the value of service coordinators and give these important early intervention team members a professional home. The SC CoP offers service coordinators the opportunities to network with others across the nation, share SC-related resources and tips, and learn about topics relevant to providing high quality service coordination.
