ECEAP Updates

Data for the Saturation Study will be pulled from ELMS on October 16. The ECEAP Data Team will not be confirming slots with contractors, instead using the data in ELMS. Please make sure slot data is accurate and complete in ELMS by October 15.


ELMS Updates

ELMS DCYF turned off the permissions to change site slot counts and move slots between sites in ELMS for 2023-24. You will need to contact your CQI if you need a slot count change. In the spring, we will give contractors back this function to set up the 2024-25 school year.

 

ELMS improvements released on September 6 include:

Expansion Contact:

You can now select an Expansion Contact in ELMS. The staff you select will be the person(s) that DCYF contacts about expansion during the Request for Applications process.

Early ECEAP now has three class types:

  • Infant/Toddler (combined),

  • Infant, and

  • Toddler.

Understanding and Navigating Challenging Behavior: What Would You Do?

Children exhibiting behaviors teachers find challenging is a common experience in many early childhood classrooms. This month’s webinar for Head Start professionals will explore the underlying causes of challenging behaviors, shedding light on the developmental, emotional, and social factors that contribute to them. Using case studies from the field and live participant input, we will discuss the complexities of these behaviors and provide guidance to help you move from understanding the issues to using strategies that help remedy them. 

Coalition for Safety and Health in Early Learning (CSHEL)

 CSHEL is a networking group of professionals supporting early care and education, especially around health and safety. This group has been organized by a few dedicated professionals and administered by the pediatrician of BestStart Washington. ECEAP staff who do coordination of health services for families are encouraged to attend.

Family Fun Workshop opportunities at Seattle Art Museum

Family Fun Workshops are designed to engage both kids and adults of all ages in learning and creating together. Every workshop begins by exploring a few works of art in SAM’s collection and special exhibitions. With the guidance of a teaching artist and plenty of art-making materials provided, imaginations can run wild as you create a masterpiece inspired by your art adventure. Workshop Dates We have the following Saturdays at SAM Downtown available:

• March 16, 2023

• April 6, 2023

• May 18, 2023

Most experiences are from 10am - 12:30pm but we are happy to accommodate other times and locations if this schedule does not work for your group. Workshop Schedule 10 am - Participants arrive at SAM Downtown 10:15 - 11:00 am - Gallery Tour led by SAM Education Staff 11:00 - 12:00 pm Art Activity led by Teaching Artist 12:00 - 12:30 pm - Lunch Participants are invited to explore the galleries on their own after lunch or head back to their organization.

Additional Information:

SAM is happy to provide bus reimbursements if you wish to bus families from your organization to one of our three locations. SAM will provide lunch for all participants Maximum of 50 participants Accessibility The Seattle Art Museum strives to provide an enriching experience for everyone. WSDA Farm to School Purchasing Grant Application Deadline is Extended to October 16th: The WSDA Farm to School Purchasing Grant is a competitive reimbursement grant available to schools and childcare centers for the purchase and use of Washington-grown foods in child nutrition programs.

Who Can Apply:

  • Childcare centers who are active program operators of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP - childcare).
  • Organizations that oversee multiple Family Day Care Home (FDCH) providers are eligible to apply but FDCH providers may not apply individually. 
  • Tribal Early Learning Centers.

Strategies to Help Every Child Fly in Inclusive Early Childhood Classrooms and Programs

Anxiety in Preschool Children: Identifying and supporting anxious young learners

Anxiety rates are skyrocketing among young learners—and their teachers urgently need explicit guidance on how to understand and support these children. This webinar, presented by author and child care advocate, Dr. Sarah Vanover, will prepare you to recognize anxiety in children ages 3–8, identify the associated behaviors, and work effectively with children who have symptoms of anxiety. DCYF is hiring for a Senior Administrator for Workforce and Professional Development to oversee the agency’s vision for workforce and professional development, capacity and supports required to evolve a responsive and diverse mixed delivery system of early care and education. As a member of the DCYF Early Learning Leadership Team, this position provides statewide leadership, oversight, and advisement to support the existing diverse early care and education workforce to deliver high-quality services, as well as strategies to bring new providers into the early care and education field. These strategies support provider and educator qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities, leading to children being prepared and ready for school. This effort furthers DCYF’s strategic priorities, with particular focus on eliminating racial disproportionalities, advancing racial equity and increasing access to affordable, high-quality early care and education.

Tulalip Tribes is looking for a Lead Teacher. Job summary includes: Engage children in activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical and developmental growth in preparation to reach School Readiness Goals. Utilize Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies to plan, implement and track the everyday operations of the classroom. Co-Teach the Lushootseed language in the classroom. Work with families to support their child in their educational success. Work with Classroom team to assure that the children are all achieving success in the classroom. Be an active participant in the classroom teaching team. Get direction from the supervising staff on other tasks assigned to you. Complete all required documentation for grants such as EHS, CACFP, and others.
