The DCYF Assessment Oversight Group (AOG) invites all interested DCYF staff to join a June speaker series on the application of assessment tools in child welfare, juvenile justice, and early learning. During these Zoom conversations, national experts will speak on assessment topics and how they relate to the work underway in our agency. This speaker series is designed to inform staff throughout the agency about best practices in assessments and to grow our collective understanding as we work to ensure that all assessments used with DCYF clients are efficient and effective. Attendees are invited to ask questions and the series will be recorded and posted on the intranet for those who cannot attend. Feel free to attend one or all of the talks!

The Peer Support Team will be hosting a grief gathering on Tuesday, May 31 from 10 – 11 a.m. Please join us for a moment to share thoughts, express feelings, and process our grief and anger while building support and community within DCYF.

In addition, the Peer Support Team will be starting up the once a month drop-in sessions that will be held on the second Thursday every month at 1 p.m. The first virtual drop-in will be held on Thursday, June 9. Register here.
Our agency experiences trauma and secondary trauma that is unique to our field. Staff deserve multiple opportunities to process this trauma on work time. Join RAIN (Rainbow Alliance and Inclusion Network) in celebrating Pride Month on June 16 at 2:30 p.m. State government leaders will join RAIN to discuss LGBTQ+ issues, their personal journeys through state government, finding and helping individuals find belonging in the community while at work, and increasing LGBTQ+ inclusivity. There will be a membership mingle from 4 – 4:30 p.m. at the conclusion of the PRIDE Panel discussion. Please email rain@ofm.wa.gov for accommodation requests. This event will not be recorded.

Juneteenth is a time to gather as a family, reflect on the past and look to the future. Join us as Dorian Waller, Chairperson, Washington State Commission on African American Affairs talks about the history and ways to celebrate this African American cultural tradition of music, food, and freedom.

The EAP provides a wealth of resources covering a wide breadth of topics on their website. One such resource that might be most relevant in light of the recent school shooting Texas – Coping with Fear of Violence: School Shootings. This document aims to normalize feelings, provide suggestions for coping, and point employees to resources and support through the EAP. This resource can be found on EAP’s Resources page.
