ECEAP Updates

ELMS

  • Be sure to check the ELMS News tab when you log on to ELMS. The latest information is always on top.
  • Child Alerts Report: There is a handy report in ELMS to help you remember which children need follow-up on developmental screenings, health issues, obtaining eligibility documentation (if documentation was initially unavailable for children who are experiencing homelessness), and more. In ELMS, open the Reports tab. You’ll see this report at the top of the list. You can run it by Contractor, Site, or Class. It lists each child with their start date and topics to follow up.
  • Hover Definitions: Throughout ELMS, you will see bolded words and phrases in blue, looking like a hyperlink. If you hover over these and click, you’ll see a popup with a detailed definition or further instructions. Check this out on the first step of the ELMS Child Application. For assistance, email elms@dcyf.wa.gov.

Equity

  • Start with Equity: From the Early Years to the Early Grades. This report from The Children’s Equity Project highlights the grave inequities that have long pervaded the education system and affect the lives of millions of children from historically marginalized communities, using the lens of three policy areas: disproportionate application of harsh discipline practices; lack of inclusion of students with disabilities in general classrooms; and inequitable and inadequate access to dual language programming. This report concrete recommendations for consideration and implementation.
  • Creating a Welcoming Early Childhood Program for LGBT-Headed Families: Partnering with Parents Who Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and/or Transgender. This resource from Head Start is part of a series developed to support programs in partnering with parents/guardians who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender (LGBT). You will also find information and strategies to create an early childhood setting that is welcoming for all children and families. Recommended for directors, teachers, providers, and parents.
