The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) estimates that families of about 305,000 children (age birth through 5) need child care, and only about 34% of those children are enrolled in licensed child care or preschool.
To meet ongoing needs for regular, up-to-date data on child care and preschool needs in local communities, as well as to address statutory requirements for regular data reporting, DCYF’s Office of Innovation, Alignment, and Accountability (OIAA) will develop and publish a series of early learning dashboards.
The first in this series is the Child Care Need and Supply dashboard. This tool maps the estimated need and supply for child care for young children in Washington State. The map can be navigated to show results by legislative district, county, zip code, and age group.
DCYF will also publish the data tables associated with these maps to assist local community planning efforts. The dashboards and data will be updated regularly.
If you have questions or feedback, email us at OIAA@dcyf.wa.gov.
