Dear Child Care Providers:

We cannot thank you enough for your commitment to continuing to serve Washington’s families and children. We know that you may be tired and fatigued as we continue to navigate the ongoing pandemic. You have been key to supporting families throughout the COVID-19 health crisis by ensuring your doors remain open and welcoming children of working families every day. You are the real heroes.

On Nov. 15, Gov. Jay Inslee amended the Stay Safe, Stay Healthy Proclamation in response to increased COVID-19 infection rates across the state. According to the Governor’s order, child care providers may remain open and operational and are deemed essential throughout the pandemic.

At this time, you should continue following the Department of Health (DOH) and Labor and Industries (L&I) guidance and requirements found below:

We appreciate your feedback and ask that you share if you are experiencing any changes, have concerns or need support during this time. We want to hear from you. Providing safe and quality care is at the center of your work. Be mindful to take care of yourselves and your staff during this time and follow all recommended DOH and L&I guidance and requirements. You will receive additional information and guidance over the next several days via messages like this or through our DCYF COVID-19 page.

The services you provide supports working families, first responders and essential workers and keeps Washington’s children safe, healthy, engaged in learning and interacting with their peers — benefiting children’s continued growth and development. DCYF echoes the thank you from First Lady Inslee on Sunday evening: thank you for continuing to play a critical role in Washington State for families.

If you have any COVID-19 related questions or want to share any changes, concerns or supports needed, please email communications@dcyf.wa.gov.
