Native Pollinators Talk at WWPL
Thursday October 9, 5:30 pm at the library
Whitman College Biology Department Chair and expert on native pollinators Dr. Heidi Dobson will present on native pollinators in our area, and how native plants support them. Part 2 of a two-part series featuring local experts on native plants, this talk will focus on how your yard can help native pollinators, and considerations for what to plant with an eye towards the Columbia Basin Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society's annual Native Plant Sale on October 18.
Dr. Dobson's academic research focuses on the role of floral traits and pollen in flower selection by bees, which she investigates through behavioral studies of wild bee species (solitary pollen-specialist bees and bumble bees), chemical ecology, and anatomical studies of pollen feeding in bees. She also researches bee ecology in the Walla Walla Valley and supervises student projects investigating local insect and plant life of the Pacific Northwest.
No registration is required for this event; contact the Walla Walla Public Library at 509-527-4550 or email questions to wwpl@wallawallawa.gov
