 Employee Holiday Traditions Cookbook
We may not be able to celebrate the upcoming holiday season together in person this year, but we can still connect by sharing our stories and experiences... and food!
This fall, Atlas is putting together a cookbook of holiday recipes and stories collected from Community Transit employees. Every employee is encouraged to submit a favorite recipe!
To really make the food come to life, you can also include a photo and/or a paragraph that describes what the recipe means to you. What do you think of when you make, see, or smell this food? Are you instantly transported to another time and place? Does it remind you of a particular person? Does it make you think, "Remember that time when..."?
Other things you might include in your paragraph:
- Which holiday(s) you celebrate, and how
- Traditions from your culture, ethnicity, or family
Send your recipe, with your name and job title, and optional photo and paragraph to Atlas at CTAtlasIPS@gmail.com.
Submissions will be accepted through Nov. 6 and every employee will receive a copy of the cookbook in December.
Transportation Choices Coalition to Induct Emmett Heath to Hall of Fame
The Transportation Choices Coalition is a policy and advocacy nonprofit dedicated to making transportation accessible to all in Washington State. It works to pass policies that support more transit, bike, and pedestrian improvements at the state, regional, and local levels.
Every year they celebrate the achievements of their partners and induct them into their Hall of Fame. This year, our CEO Emmett Heath, will be inducted at an event on Oct. 2.
From the TCC Hall of Fame website: "Emmett has focused his work at Community Transit around community-oriented transit service, connecting people to opportunities throughout Snohomish County and creating a long term vision of transit expansion. He built up the Swift Bus Rapid Transit program, increasing speed and reliability of transit in the region. Throughout the pandemic, Emmett has centered essential travel for those who need it most, now and into the future. Emmett has been a great partner to TCC and we will miss his leadership."
The Hall of Fame induction event takes place on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. More details and instructions to register can be found here.
Winner, Winner, Chicken... Director?
The Executive Leadership Team members are putting themselves up for auction in the Community Transit employee fundraising campaign for United Way!
The director who receives the most bids will wear a chicken suit. He/she will strut their stuff for the day and we’ll get the pictures to prove it.
Who will be the chicken to rule the roost? Only you can decide with your bids. Check out all 10 of the chickens (and other auction items) here. Check frequently; new items are always being added!

- On October 19, Special Meetings will be held to choose new Board members to represent Small Cities and Medium Cities. These meetings will fill vacancies left by departing Board members Elizabeth Callaghan and Mike Todd. More information about these meetings can be found here.

Financial Analyst Colleen Hansen is ready for her flu shot at MCOB!
Be Sure To Get Your Flu Shot This Year
A flu shot this year is more important than ever in caring for ourselves and each other.
The flu shot does not protect against COVID-19, but it can reduce risk of complications from getting sick with both the flu and COVID-19.
Community Transit is partnering with Bartell Drugs to provide free, on-site flu shots for employees. To observe social distancing needs, all of the paperwork is done online. It takes about five minutes and it’s preferred if people sign up online.
Walk-ins are accepted as time and social distancing allow.
The clinic is located in the Operations building, Training Room 1. A face covering and a COVID-19 symptom screening are required to enter the building.
There is still time to sign up for a flu shot appointment. An appointment can be made online through Monday, Oct. 5. There are a few afternoon appointments still available for Tuesday, Oct. 6 here.
You can get a flu shot off-site at most pharmacies or your doctor’s office. The flu shot should be covered by your insurance provider. Call your pharmacy or doctor’s office in advance, as appointments may be required.
More details are available under “9/17: It’s Important To Get a Flu Shot This Year” at www.communitytransit.org/employeeinfo. If you still have questions after reading that page, contact Chris Beck at (425) 348-7163.

Service Ambassador Peggy Clever-Fagan photographed this rainbow from the Swift marker at Everett Station last week. "Look at this beautiful rainbow, promising us better times to come!" she said.
Renovation work on the Kasch Park Casino Road building has begun! Left: Larger windows being cut on the northwest perimeter of the building. Right: Excavation for foundations and utilities.
Transit Driver Appreciation Day was celebrated a little late this year due to COVID-19, but we never forget to thank our drivers! This year, Coach Operators were greeted with a goodie bag full of sweet treats, a $5 Avanti coupon, and a Community Transit-branded set of personal eating utensils.
We're checking out possible new signage for bus stops, park and rides, and Swift stations! New technology will integrate with real-time bus information. Check out this sign in the Great Hallway at MCOB and give your feedback, then be to sure come back to see different options in the coming months!
