Community Transit Grants 10 Surplus Vans to Local Nonprofits
Domestic Violence Services was one out of 10 groups selected to receive retired Community Transit vans. The 10 surplus vans, otherwise slated for auction, were awarded to local nonprofit organizations to further meet the local transportation needs.
Collectively, the vehicles will provide 42,000 annual trips for youth, survivors of domestic violence, seniors and other people that benefit from the important work carried out by local nonprofits.
Community Transit launched the Van GO program in 2000 and has since awarded 136 vans and wheelchair lift-equipped paratransit vehicles to qualified 501(c)3 organizations throughout Snohomish County. The program has been replicated by transit agencies throughout the state and the country.
Body Shop Artist Becomes First 40-year Employee
Last month, Gerry Martin became the first 40-year employee in Community Transit’s 42-year history.
Originally from Winthrop, Washington, Gerry Martin left his hometown where he worked for the Forestry Service to come to western Washington. In 1979 he was hired to perform preventative maintenance on Community Transit buses.
Flash forward 40 years and now Martin is the lead of the agency body shop. Some of his duties include repairing buses, providing estimates for repairs and new bus preparation, including the installation of graphics. To read the full story visit our blog: Community Transit Blog

Swift Green Line Doubles Ridership on Bothell-Boeing Corridor
The highly anticipated Swift Green Line opened on March 24, and bus ridership along the Canyon Park/Bothell-Boeing/Paine Field corridor has doubled in just one month.
More than 1,700 people are riding the Swift Green Line each weekday, taking trips between Bothell, Mill Creek, unincorporated Snohomish County and south Everett. That number makes the Green Line Community Transit’s second-highest ridership route, behind only the Swift Blue Line which runs along Highway 99 between Everett and Shoreline.
In fall 2018, the Green Line corridor attracted about 1,300 weekday riders on Routes 105 & 106 combined. At the end of April 2019, bus ridership on the corridor was nearly 2,800 riders each weekday. On weekends, ridership has tripled. It is evidence that riders appreciate the frequency of the Swift Green Line, which runs every 10 minutes weekdays, and every 20 minutes nights and weekends.

Saturday Job Fair Attracts 123 Potential Applicants
Community Transit continues to fulfill its goal of expanding service to Snohomish County residents. The opening of the Swift Green Line this spring added 10 percent more bus service in the county, and further expansion is on the way.
To meet our goal, more employees are needed, particularly bus drivers and mechanics. On Saturday, April 27, the agency held a job fair at its Merrill Creek Operating Base in south Everett that attracted 123 people – the largest job fair in the agency’s history.

Attendees got to walk on a bus and see the operating base up close, as well as talk to current employees about what the jobs entail. More information about open positions can be found online at www.communitytransit.org/jobs.
Meanwhile, the agency has graduated eight new drivers. Daniel, William, Paul, Timothy, Joe, Mike, Nana and John are now on the road driving your buses!
