 CLINTON TO KEN'S CORNER TRAIL
Climate Commitment Act Funding Award - $3,520,000.00

ISLAND COUNTY PRESS RELEASE DATE, Wednesday, March 2, 2022
On February 13, 2022, Island County was awarded $3,520,000.00 in Climate Commitment Act (CCA) Funding from the Washington State Legislature for the Construction of Clinton to Ken's Corner Trail. The State Legislature passed the CCA in 2021 to establish and implement a comprehensive program to reduce greenhouse gas limits and carbon pollution limits (set in State law) due to climate change: https://ecology.wa.gov/Blog/Posts/February-2022/The-Climate-Commitment-Act-Washington-s-Path-to-Ca

Clinton to Ken's Corner Trial will be a 2.14-mile; 10-foot wide paved Multi-Modal Non-Motorized Trail adjacent to the NE side of SR-525 from Deer Lake Road in Clinton to Langley Road in Langley, Washington, on South Whidbey Island. The trail will meet ADA requirements and provide separation for bicyclists and pedestrians from SR-525 traffic to avoid serious injury.

Clinton to Ken’s Corner Trail will promote clean transportation by promoting bicycling and walking and help reduce negative impacts on environmental and human health due to climate change. Bicycling and walking play an important role by creating a balanced intermodal transportation system, reduce the emission of hazardous gas pollutants, decrease traffic congestion, and improve physical activity for healthier communities.

Clinton to Ken's Corner Trail is currently in the 30% Design Phase. Final 30% Design is targeted for May 6, 2022; 60% Design is scheduled for November 2023; 90% Construction Documents are scheduled for March 2024; 100% Bid Documents scheduled for July 2024, and Bid Award for Construction is scheduled for November 2024.

A Virtual Presentation and Public Comment Period will be scheduled by the end of May 2022.
