To keep pace with a growing city, Bellevue is working on ways to help the community and permitting customers navigate permitting with more consistency, predictability and ease. In August, we announced a partnership with Govstream.ai to pilot innovative tools that use AI to help permitting staff find accurate information quickly, answer questions and guide applicants through the process faster. The goal is to save time, reduce frustration and keep projects moving smoothly - from home remodels to new construction. Want to learn more? Register for the city's upcoming Innovation Forum.

Planning a remodel or new home construction in Bellevue? We introduced a streamlined review process for residential building permits (BS permits) this month to improve the application and review process. The new approach brings all permit review teams together, so applicants receive all of the feedback on their applications at the same time. Submittal requirements have been updated to help applicants provide complete, accurate materials from the start. These changes are part of our ongoing efforts to make the permitting experience more efficient, transparent, and predictable for homeowners, builders and designers. For details on the updated process and submittal requirements, review the information on the Permits webpage at Bellevue.WA.gov/development-permits.

Bellevue has updated its land use code to align with state middle housing laws. Interim processes are in place so projects can move forward while a dedicated middle-housing permit is developed. Many of the middle housing types were already allowed in certain areas—now they’re possible in more places. Information on interim requirements is available on the Development Services website.
