Lower speed limits proposed for Bellevue neighborhoods

Speeding on local streets is the top concern heard from residents about traffic safety in Bellevue. In response to these concerns, the City of Bellevue is considering lowering the speed limit on most local streets from 25 mph to 20 mph. Local streets are streets that primarily provide access within neighborhoods and carry local traffic to collector arterials.

A lower speed limit encourages people to drive slower, creating a more comfortable environment for people walking and rolling; creates predictable speed limits; and supports the city’s Vision Zero efforts. The proposal builds on three previously implemented 20 mph speed limits in Bellevue that decreased high-end speeding.
