Wednesday was a great day in Auburn! After a few months of working diligently with King County Executive Dow Constantine and his dedicated team, King County Councilmembers, the Cities of Algona, Pacific & Maple Valley, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, as well as Valley Regional Fire Authority, Valley Professional Firefighters #1352, Auburn School District, Green River Community College, private businesses including Orion Industries, and last but definitely not least, the incredibly compassionate public health professionals, we all came together to announce that Auburn's King County Public Health Clinic will remain OPEN for the next two years! This was no easy task, and your city councilmembers - lead by Largo Wales - were there every step of the way, unwilling to accept anything less than maintaining our clinic. Money has been committed by all of those mentioned above. (You can watch the video of our announcement here.)
Someone told me a few months ago that I didn't really understand the importance of networking. Well, I would put our community and the relationships that we have earned and nurtured over many years up against anyone! We don't just work together when there is need, we work together as a way of life, and will continue to do so.
Tuesday morning was the first opportunity for many of us to gather to discuss the Teen & Community Centers that will soon be underway. The meeting was the kick-off for the design effort, and included our department directors, parks team, and some of the professionals that will be under contract for this project. Our consulting team facilitated the conversation and filled three lively hours. Topics included "What does success look like?" and "What does failure look like?" Budget was on everyone's mind, and I am confident that the entire project will come in UNDER $9 million!
Later that afternoon, it was time for City Councilmembers, Junior City Councilmembers, and Auburn Youth Councilmembers to meet to discuss programming and design for the project. So many great ideas from our teens! We get one chance to do this right for you, and we want to make sure we don't miss anything. There will be many upcoming opportunities for you to provide your input, but don't hesitate to send me your thoughts and ideas at any time!
