āThere is something unmatched about spring flowers ā an awakening, a renewal that fills the air with surreal harmonies of love and joy.ā

On Monday, along with Mayors Ralph and Pavone, we had the opportunity to meet with Senator Patty Murray as she toured the Mechatronics lab at Renton Technical College. This wasnāt just a random drop-in tour, Sen. Murray was there because we were celebrating the $2.6 million she secured in the 2026 appropriations bills to invest in the Kent Valleyās Air & Space Manufacturing workforce development.
Both Renton Technical College AND Green River College were the recipients of funds. Interim GRC President George Frasier was also part of the group. I am always so very proud when the work being accomplished at GRC and within the South King County region is recognized and celebrated. Well done!
I was hoping to join the seniors for an Easter Brunch on Friday at the Auburn Senior Activity Center, but unfortunately, a meeting I was attending in Tacoma ran long. As I parked my car to go in, I saw people leaving and chatted with them for a few minutes, but right before that, I saw the most precious scene, and I just had to take a photo to share with you. I hope this makes you smile and brings joy to you like it did me!
One of the things I value most about our community is how deeply we care for one another, especially when it comes to supporting our young people! Thatās why Iām excited to share an opportunity to help guide important prevention and intervention efforts here in Auburn.
The Auburn Prevention Coalition -- made up of partners across local government, schools, healthcare, and community organizations -- is working to reduce and prevent youth drug and alcohol use. Their work includes everything from vaping cessation programs for teens to parent support classes and community-wide education efforts.
Every few years, the coalition asks for input from the community to better understand whatās working and where we can do more. This short, 5-minute survey plays a key role in shaping those efforts. It helps answer important questions about awareness, access, and attitudes surrounding substance use among youth.
If you live or work within the Auburn School District boundaries, I encourage you to take a few minutes to share your perspective. Your voice truly makes a difference in helping us build a healthier, safer future for Auburnās next generation.
The survey is open through July 31, and participants can also enter a drawing for a $50 gift card.
Thank you for continuing to show up for our youth and for our community.

One of Auburnās most beloved spring traditions is hopping back into our parksāand I couldnāt be more excited to invite you all to take part in this yearās Peter Cotton Trail!
From Friday to Monday, our parks and trails will once again be filled with hidden bunny cutouts just waiting to be discovered. Itās a simple idea, but itās one that brings so much joy -- getting outside, exploring new places, and sharing a little adventure with family and friends.
This event is designed for everyone, no matter your age or the park you visit! Itās free, accessible, and a great way to experience the natural beauty that makes Auburn such a special place to live.
You can track your bunny sightings using a printed scorecard, available online, or keep notes on your phone as you go. Once youāve completed your scavenger hunt (or as many as you can find!), submit your entries online for a chance to win some fun prizes.
Dogs also love looking for Mr. Cotton Tail, even with their eyes closed
The full list of participating parks is below -- so get to it!
I hope youāll join us for a weekend of fresh air, a little friendly competition, and plenty of Auburn charm. Happy hunting!

Friday, April 3 - Monday, April 6 ā° Dawn to dusk š Various parks
Ā don't know if you've checked your calendar lately, but you may be shocked to learn that it's already April! Spring is somehow here, and that means summer is right around the corner, and of course, coming right alongside it is National Night Out!
We're opening registration a little bit early this year to try and get a head start on all of the citywide planning that's soon to follow.Ā
Keep our National Night Out page bookmarked and check back on Monday or anytime after! Registration will stay open until July -- plenty of time to talk to your neighbors, plan an event, and invite city staff out!
Please join me in welcoming our newest officers, Ian Hubbard, Samuel Sawyer and Jacob Kong!
These three recently graduated from the academy and were officially sworn in last week. They are eager and excited to begin serving and protecting the Auburn community.
VRFA 71, APD 50 (Iām sure Iāll pay for sharing the score!) -- but if you ask me, the real win was seeing our community come together for such a fun and meaningful event.
Our Valley Regional Fire Authority team came out strong, and Auburn Police Department gave it their all. There were some impressive plays, plenty of hustle, and a few moments that had all of us smilingāwhether they were planned or not!
One of my favorite parts of the night was halftime, when the kids took over the court. Watching them shoot for prizes and soak in the moment was such a great reminder of what these events are really about.
Most importantly, we wrapped up the night with lots of laughs, no injuries, and a whole lot of community spirit. Iām so grateful to everyone who came out to support, donate, and cheer on our teams ā including Councilmember Rakes! And of course, to both VRFA and APD for always showing up for Auburn, on and off the court.
We may need a little more stretching next year. But I already canāt wait!
You've probably seen the news but just in case, let me break it to you -- we're headed back to the moon! More specifically, four NASA astronauts are headed there on Artemis II.Ā
On Friday, NASA shared two photos of the moon that I wanted to share here because they're just so spectacular. Kind of takes your breath away huh? Knowing that we're all on there, somewhere, really puts things in focus.Ā

This adorable child? Could be you this weekend!
Auburn is rich with history ā from historical Main Street to the artifacts preserved throughoutĀ White River Valley MuseumĀ ā I am excited to share these stories with all of you each week.Ā
(Image courtesy of White River Valley Museum)
Weaving is an ancient Coast Salish art form, used to create both necessary utilitarian objects and incredible masterworks of artistic and spiritual importance. Traditional weavers used and prepared many kinds of fibers in their work, from cedar bark and spruce roots to fireweed fluff and Salish woolly dog fur. Muckleshoot weavers of the 20th century like Martha Lobehan and Betsy Lozier used their skills to support their families by making and selling items for trade, including baskets, garments, and household goods. This knit wool mitten is one of a pair made by Betsy Lozier, and was worn by Auburn resident Al Leslie as a mitten liner while skiing.
