All lanes to reopen Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, at Third Avenue Southwest
PACIFIC – All lanes of northbound State Route 167 will close overnight Monday, Dec. 22, in Pacific while crews finalize repairs and restore the original traffic configuration at the Third Avenue Southwest Bridge.
Starting at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, all three travel lanes of northbound SR 167 will reopen in this area following successful repairs to the Third Avenue Southwest overpass.
Third Avenue Southwest, which runs beneath the overpass, also will reopen at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Closure details From 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close northbound SR 167 between Stewart and Ellingson roads to shift traffic back into its original configuration.
A signed detour will guide people around the closure. Travelers should expect delays along the detour route.
Northbound SR 167 has operated with single- and double-lane reductions near the Third Avenue Southwest Bridge (milepost 12) since Sept. 23, when an over-height commercial vehicle damaged a girder near the middle of the span.
Permanent repairs began Nov. 19. Crews used precision methods to remove the damaged girder and install a new 60-foot, 26-ton support beam in its place. Crews also poured 27 cubic yards of concrete to secure the girder to the bridge and restore the driving surface.
Construction in this area had been scheduled to continue into early 2026. Crews worked around the clock for several weeks to complete repairs ahead of the busy Christmas travel week.
