Several Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) projects and emergency repairs are creating heavy traffic in Auburn and across the region. Here’s what you need to know:
SR 167 A damaged bridge girder has reduced northbound lanes to one. Repairs will take months, not weeks. WSDOT is reviewing options to safely reopen an additional lane, but expect significant, ongoing delays.
SR 410 – White River Bridge The bridge remains fully closed after major damage. While one-lane alternating traffic was initially considered, WSDOT is instead proceeding with full repairs that will extend into November or beyond. A lengthy detour remains in place.
SR 18 – C Street SW Bridge Weekend closures are underway to replace worn expansion joints. Westbound closures happened Sept. 26–29, causing backups throughout the city. This weekend, Oct. 3–6, all eastbound lanes and on/off-ramps at C Street SW will close from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Signed detours will be provided, but expect heavy congestion.
Stewart Road Bridge (Sumner) Overnight closures are planned Oct. 9–10 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., which may affect early-morning commuters on Oct. 10.

These closures are straining Auburn’s north–south corridors, especially Auburn Way South, Lea Hill, Lakeland Hills, and Mill Pond. Our Police, Public Works, Emergency Management, and Communications teams are working with WSDOT and regional partners to help manage the situation, but traffic volumes are exceeding system capacity.
Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and watch for detours. We’ll continue sharing updates as more information becomes available.
