We are pleased to have Allyce Wood as our Mary Olson Farm Artist in Residence for Summer 2023!
The City of Auburn, Auburn Arts Commission, and the White River Valley Museum are pleased to welcome talented textile artist Allyce Wood as the 2023 Mary Olson Farm Artist in Residence this summer! The farm’s unique and beautiful setting will be an ideal place for the artist to draw inspiration, engage with the community, and create new weavings which the artist hopes will “speak to the specialness of this place and the continued traditions of women responsible for their own livelihoods, their ingenuity, and resourcefulness.”
Allyce Wood is a textile artist living and working locally in Seattle, Washington. Interested in digital and traditional processes, she creates intricate woven textiles, acting as mediator between the old and the new.
"Wood considers public engagement a vital part of her practice and is always seeking ways to share and connect. The opportunity for community involvement, information sharing, and connection drives her to pursue exhibitions, public projects, and publications into which others may enter."

The beautiful Mary Olson Farm is located on Green River Road and is operated as a partnership between the White River Valley Museum and the City of Auburn. It is said to be King County's best preserved subsistence farm and has been fully restored.
Today, the restored 1897 barn and homestead is the home to our bimonthly artist in residence program. The artists in their time here take inspiration from the history and environment to create pieces that enrich their artistic practice.
To learn more about the history of the farm, visit the White River Valley Museum's Web Page.
