This year, Halloween is on a Monday (seriously, why can't the holiday just be the final Saturday of the month?). Which means this weekend is sure to be filled with Halloween festivities, ours included.
On Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Auburn Community and Event Center and Les Gove Park, we're holding our annual Halloween Harvest Festival and Trunk-or-Treat. I'm very much hoping you can join us.
Why? Because there's games, crafts, rides, photo booths and more -- perfect for showing off all of your amazing costumes.
And for the kiddos (and incorrigible teens), a trunk-or-treat around the trail at Les Gove Park.
📅 Saturday, Oct. 29 🕐 1 to 5 p.m. 📍 Auburn Community & Event Center and Les Gove Park, 910 9th St. SE
💵 $5 wristband for unlimited rides, otherwise free
The photo is a little pixelated, I know, but bare with me: it was taken over 16 years ago. This is from when I walked with a few of Auburn teammates (recognize everyone here?) in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation and Susan Komen. On our team was Tamie Bothell, who is on her sweet 16th year of beating breast cancer! Woohoo Tamie!
Last week on Friday I asked our Team Auburn employees to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and snap a photo. Well, I wanted to share a few...
Tamie Bothell, cancer free!
HR Analysts and Wellness Committee members Joe Nienalt and Terry Mendoza rockin’ the pink!

I understand the frustration some in our community feel when they believe they're not being heard. I want you to know that's not the case and never will be. We hear you when you tag us on social about crime and drug use in your areas. We see you and understand you.
Which is why it was important that we create an opportunity to share -- more in-depth -- the work our anti-homelessness team does each and every day. Our communications manager recently spent a few days tagging along with them as they went throughout the community of Auburn so he could tell a story not many people get to see. I hope you give it a read.

This week I helped the community celebrate the official grand opening of Lea Hill Elementary on Thursday. The opening marks the seventh new school the Auburn School District has opened as part of the Building for Learning bond passed in 2016. The new community schools are beautiful and will serve our community for generations!

The Miss Auburn & Miss Auburn Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program are currently looking for candidates for Miss Auburn and Miss Auburn’s Outstanding Teen, including the non-competitive programs: Ambassadors and Little Sparkles.
This program is a wonderful resource, where women gain the chance to create change. That comes in the form of mentorship programs, scholarships, and skill-building in leadership and public speaking. I was a contestant once, and then served as president for over 32 years, and now emcee the event each year. The next competition is January 21, 2023.
The Miss Auburn website has plenty of information and resources on how to get started, including how to donate and volunteer.
